Found near a river, never seen anything like this

That piece that you have is the result of dissolved iron percolating through porous sandstone and then precipitating in bands/rings. The softer sandstone eventually eroded away and that piece of iron broke off. The sandstone within this tube of iron was protected from erosion. I’m guessing that you found this somewhere on the Appalachian plateau?
