My mom came to help for a few weeks and it's been so amazing. We don't have a big place either, we just adjusted our routine to make it work. We started changing the baby on the dining table when it's not being used, and I breastfeed on the couch in the living room area. My mom did all the cooking and cleaning for the day, and offered to take the baby for a few hours during the day so I could nap. I combi feed so she also washed and sanitized the bottles and made formula. We figured out a showering schedule so that everyone had plenty of time and weren't rushing around each other.

I am the OP. 10 days in and I am happy to report a solution that has worked well for all of us. About 10pm, I move the changing pad and associated products to the living area. The baby is nursed in that area for nighttime feedings and changes. On two nights, I stepped in to soothe the little one, using shushing, rocking and swaddling, until next feeding, after which time he went back to his bassinet in the parents' room.

My baby girls are soon to become mothers themselves! With DD #2, I felt the profound love many of you are describing. This was quite a different feeling than I experienced with DD#1. I chose to journal about it, and I encourage you to do the same. One day you can share that with your child, or you can treasure it during difficult times as they grow up.
