Booth MBA grad here (before it was Booth) and long time Dallas area resident and worker in downtown Dallas not far from SMU. As you are looking at a buffet of possibilities, a little of this and a little of that challenging yourself but enjoying life too. SMU is located in an upper middle class/upper class bubble with anything that money can buy a short distance away. UChicago is located in a deeply urban polyglot neighborhood of Hyde Park where you do need “street smarts” awareness of your surroundings. (I loved the Hyde Park neighborhood.) Also, many Booth students live near the large downtown Booth facilities. Downtown Dallas to downtown Chicago - Chicago all the way. City to city for exploring everything - Chicago all the way. Plus a mini ocean in Lake Michigan and gorgeous lakefront for many miles for relaxing and reflecting time. Business school to Business school and alumni network - Booth if you are going outside Dallas. Also important, a great majority of Booth students will be like you - not “nerdy” academics whatsoever, but older interesting driven people like you from everywhere wanting to advance their business careers. Booth students live and play with other “Boothies.” Weather Fall to Spring then Dallas by a big margin. Chicago can get very cold in the winter. Tip the scales to Chicago if you start in the summer.

Thanks a lot! Ended up committing here although my offer with Booth didnt run out yet, also notably was my 20% scholarship in Gorgetown's program I will let slide. I think all in all still more expensive than tuition with my 10% scholarship at SMU.

U Chicago is more elite. More nerdy. More prestigious in that way. The slur mottoo is “where fun goes to die” SMU has a VERY competitive b school program. Many top academic students. Outstanding network. More of a well rounded campus experience- lots of school spirit, yet a decidedly moneyed crowd. Not everyone but enough to mention. School spirit is big. The weather is way better than IL. Go with your gut. Pony Up!

The Village is going to be your best best. Tons of older undergrad and grad students there, even some faculty. It’s large, the prices aren’t bad for the area, and it’s convenient.
