Mina has become famous as a captain of the Defense Force's Third Unit. Meanwhile, Kafka has failed the qualification examination numerous times and a member of the clean up crew. After a small kaiju forces itself to be eaten, Kafka gains the ability to turn into a kaiju himself, earning the moniker "Kaiju No. 8".
