Why do some people tailgate and flip you off for driving the speed limit?

If you are driving on the right-most lane, you always need to give way even if they are speeding above the speed limit. The reason is they might have an emergency and is willing to shoulder the fine. Besides, overtaking lane is designated for overtaking only (which does not get followed most of the time).

Hey thanks for the heads-up. True I was in the right lane and get what you‘re saying about keeping left. Honestly, there was a car pretty close to me on the left so switching lanes didn’t feel safe at the time. Plus the car ahead was going around 75km/h, and I was just trying to keep a safe distance.

Have you ever used a GPS to check your actual speed? I'll bet what you think is 80 is actually 71. So doing 70 odd in the right lane can wind people up pretty quick. Especially if it sounds like you were alongside another car in the left, preventing anyone from getting through?

Yep I actually use Google Maps for navigation pretty often, and the speed it shows matches my car’s speedometer almost exactly. So if that counts as GPS then I’m definitely doing 80
