First time wwoofer, left the farm after a week

Hello everyone,

I found a great farm (USA) with some very kind people who ran it, and planned to volunteer there the whole month of July. Had a great conversation with the owners prior to committing, everything seemed great. I was quite excited to go.

When I arrived, I was filled in on the operation of the farm, met the family and other wwoofers. Everyone was very kind to me answered questions well, etc. Then they told me the work schedule for the wwoofers... it was 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. six days a week with one day off.

I'm a young, healthy person, but that sort of work load was tough, it was 50+ hours a week! I worked one week for them and was totally exhausted. I wasn't even really enjoying myself because I was so tired. So after thinking about it for a while and juggling with the guilt of leaving early and not finishing my commitment, I told the family I was leaving.

Are those sorts of weekly hours doing physical farm labor normal for wwoof farms? I felt bad when i left, (especially because the farm owners were so nice) but now I feel like it was a bit exploitative, especially because I was doing the same jobs alongside people they paid, and even the paid employees worked far less hours than the wwoofers. Is asking wwoofers to work that much acceptable from the perspective of those here that are more experienced?

Anyways, I plan to keep growing food. Healthy food will change the world! Thanks for any responses, peace.
