Please read my first chapter! Hungry for feedback!

Hi all, I have realized as of late that I feel incomplete unless I am using my creative juices one way or another. I have a master's degree, so most of my writing experience is academic.

Additionally, I live a very regimented life, and thus, I started writing a bit each day as a creative exercise. I storyboarded out a "novel," and I am looking to post chapters once a week as a way to improve my writing. No goal of selling this book (but hopefully someday), and I'm mostly using it just to improve my skills! That said, I would love it if you read it and gave me feedback.
