Please Help, I’ve Created A Messy Storyline.

A long time ago, when I was seven, my little brain made a story called Firegirl and Waterboy (And no, it’s not a fan comic of Fireboy and Watergirl, it was actually inspired by Sharkboy and Lavagirl) The story followed Emma, a fifteen year old girl with fire powers, Josh, a fifteen year old boy with water powers, Ash, a sixteen year old boy with firepower’s (Who was also Emma’s brother), and Lily, a fifteen year old girl with water powers (Who was also Josh’s sister)

Over the years, I’ve added more characters to the story and adapted some of the story line, but it still doesn’t add up.

Since this was made when I was seven, I didn’t understand a lot about writing or even most of the world around me.

First of all, there are two sets of siblings, Ash and Emma, and Josh and Lily. That doesn’t really make sense. I mean, at least there aren’t two sets of twins, but still. That wouldn’t really happen in the world that often. Also, both of the sets of siblings had romantic stories? I paired up Emma x Josh and Lily x Ash, which is also something that would most likely not occur in the real world.

Second, I fixed this, but the two pairs of siblings also had the same powers. Emma and Ash used to both have fire powers. Josh and Lily both used to have water powers. Now, Ash‘s power has changed to light, and Lily’s power has changed to ice. But it still doesnt make much sense. I mean, the power of light is kinda obscure, what would his powers even do? Is he going to summon the sun or some shit? But the sun is made of fire, so it still doesn’t make any sense. Lily having the power of ice doesn’t make sense either, I mean, water and ice are kinda the same, so it wouldn’t really make sense. I mean, I guess I could always scrap Lily or Ash or both, since they don’t really add anything to the story line. But the fact of the matter is, I don’t want to.

Third, and most importantly, I accidentally created a Mary Sue. The character Lilac, which I added later on. First of all, she has a typical Mary Sue appearance. Short, dyed purple hair and a scene/Emo style. Second, she has two powers. I did this because, at the time, she was just a side character. She was no where near as important as she is now. So I wanted to make her a little special. Her two powers are teleportation and destruction. A part of the story is that they got their powers from crystals, and she found two crystals. I was going to make it so that, later in the story line, she gives one of her powers to someone else, but I haven’t gotten that far yet. She also has a super tragic backstory, like most Mary Sues do. She was sh0t with a g\/n by her father and she has this huge wound on her left eye. She also comes from a super religious and polygamous family, and they disowned her at the age of sixteen for coming out as a lesbian. She does have flaws, which kinda separates her from the Mary Sue-ism, but I still feel that she is a Mary Sue.

So….yeah. I’ve got that and a bunch more to work on.

Any tips?
