What makes YOUR humans special?

In lots of media (typically games) that involve multiple intelligent races existing (be it fantasy with its elves and dwarves, or sci-fi with its aliens) humans are almost always protrayed as the default settings race, the ones that are average at all things

And while theres nothing wrong with it, tropes are tools after all. Ive always wondered how you could make humans more special? So, what does your setting do that makes the humans in it not just the "average at everything" race?
