Want to become a carpenter

Are any of you carpenters or former carpenters? I’m thinking of leaving college to learn the trade so that I can learn to woodwork and make projects for myself or sell them. Also want to potentially build my own home one day and live off the grid. Whats the best way to learn woodworking?
