Could the average human win a fight vs the average dog?
Here in Texas many of us have Labradors so we can start with a very pissed off golden lab. A dog protecting its territory or owner will be far more motivated so assume all this is in play.
Against a huge aggressive dog, the human is at a slight to significant disadvantage. Against powerful jaws, sharp teeth, and natural fighting instincts the human should take heavy damage regardless of outcome. A human's best defense is often avoidance or deescalation. Walking briskly away should be the main deterrent for matchup with the biggest opponents. If confrontation is unavoidable, using available objects as barriers and targeting vulnerable areas like the eyes or nose after taking a big hit can offer the best chance of victory.
PSA: I do not want anyone to go fight a dog. If anything this is coming from a fitness angle where I think we should advocate the average person being able to handle a dog-sized threat.
