Discover Dairy Program at Child's School
I'm going to address the teacher but I'm not sure how. I'm just seething over here because my daughter who has been raised vegan just brought home a "certificate of adoption" because her class has now "adopted" a calf and this is apparently just the beginning. They're going to be following the development of the calf and keeping "track of her health and wellbeing just like her farmer does every day. It is encouraged to continue learning more about her role on the farm and how one day, she will produce wholesome milk for you."
Obviously I'm going to ask that my daughter be exempted from this program, but I don't want to look insane or make her stand out more than she already does. My son researched into Discover Dairy before I could and it is 100% a dairy propaganda machine funded by the dairy industry.
What would you do as a parent in this situation? Again, trying not to ostracize or "other" my daughter in this process. I considered asking them to talk about farm animal sanctuaries, too. If not instead of the Discovery Dairy program, at least give the kids another viewpoint, but I'm not sure how well that would go down.
Ugh, I'm so frustrated as a vegan parent right now. I've only been vegan for 7+ years (my daughter is 6) and this is my first child I'm raising vegan. Navigating this stuff is so annoying. Thank you for letting me vent. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
