I do miss foods

I have been vegan for about a year now. I read people often saying either as a response to someone who they want to be vegan or to a meat eater that says something about vegans missing out some variation of "I can as a vegan eat the same things (vegan versions) and I dont miss out on anything". When said to someone who is not a vegan, its often sold as "you can eat just as well and wont need to miss out on anything you like".

Now, the first is true. Many vegans dont miss anything. But the second is not true, you cant know if someone will miss things or not. I miss things. I dont miss knowing that what I eat is an animal, that is why I cant say I really miss meat, knowing what meat is. But I do miss the same tastes, textures that I associate with meat and cheese for example.

Some things I have reasonable good things to replace them. Like TVP is cheaper also so its better for me than mince meat for example. But when it comes to some other things, I do miss out because of two reasons. The alternatives that I have tried fall short. Not all, soy yogurt for example is great and same for plant milks. But some like cheese. The second reasons is price. I miss out because things are so expensive I can not afford them.

TLDR: I miss out on textures and tastes because I dont have access to alternatives or the alternatives are not good and/or I can not afford said alternatives because they are too damn expensive.
