Pacing wires left behind
Hi all,
I have a question for anyone who’s had an open heart surgery (I had a mitral valve repair in November for context) and had their temporary pacing wires left inside/cut off post surgery instead of removed.
Why is this done? I just found out at my 3 months post op review (which went great aside from this) and via xray that the sharp metal thing poking/ nearly breaking the skin from the inside is a pacing wire. Though thankfully not a sternal wire as I thought it was.
It’s causing a whole lot of discomfort and apparently it can’t be removed so soon after surgery? Has anyone had an experience like this and what can be done?
