Award Travel/Benefits with UA as a College Student

I’m a college student currently based in SFO, but after graduation, I’ll be moving to NYC for a job with work travel. I’ve been a United Silver member for the past three years and really like flying with UA. I’m also in the process of getting the Chase Sapphire Preferred card to start earning more points.

I really want to 'set myself up' for free award travel and to continue enjoying the perks of flying UA, especially as I transition to EWR as my hub. Do you guys have any tips for maximizing MileagePlus earnings/finding great award redemptions, or maintaining/earning higher status in college/a consulting career?

I’d also really appreciate any advice on how to best leverage the Chase Sapphire Preferred in conjunction with United flights.
