Robbie McGregor's best winner announcement (Soundcloud link)
It was deeply saddening not to hear Robbie last Saturday. I heard him on a commercial this week and it made me realise how synonymous he was to the sound of the countdown. I really hope Triple J go back to using him. I understand Robbie is older than the demo Triple J go for, but I always thought that was the appeal. You had this old, deep, authoritative voice, talking to the young audience (like he was a father figure trying to be cool).
It made me think to my favourite memory of one of one of his deliveries. It was the 2018 Hottest 100 where the producer must have gone "Give it 1,000% this year Robbie. There's no ceiling". Robbie just goes crazy. He always hyped me and my friends up whenever he would speak, and that was severely lacking this year. Everyone noticed. I've posted his winner announcement below.
