Calling the scientific smarties
Hi all. It would appear that all things tirz has become something of a special interest of mine, for the time being. I can’t seem to stop the rabbit holing. So, as I try to understand how this medicine works, notice how my body is responding, etc. I’m asking lots of questions and learning a lot. This morning, over morning coffee, I read this study https://www.cell.com/cell-metabolism/fulltext/S1550-4131(24)00186-4 (as one does over morning coffee).
Now, as I’ve read posts on this sub about others’ experiences, I’ve noticed recurring topics: whether cico is key, whether low carb is necessary, dose splitting v once weekly dosing, etc. Sometimes my head spins trying to understand, truly, how this medicine actually works and what I can be doing to make sure I’m maximizing my use of it. Often, I can’t find any clear, definitive answers. However, this study seemed like it might offer a glimmer of clarity. Before I latch onto it as my life raft in a sea of conflicting anecdotes, I thought I’d ask people smarter than me (who are also inclined to wade through dense scientific jargon just for funzies) if I’m reading this correctly:
I think this says that, in addition to acting in concert with and boosting the work that insulin does during the fed state, tirzepatide increases the body’s ability to burn fat in the fasted state. Is that correct? If so, does that suggest that introducing some modest intermittent fasting might help maximize its effects? Up to now, I’ve been focused on counting calories and trying to stay in the sweet spot of adequate caloric deficit to sustain moderate weightloss without restricting so much that I lose too fast and have low energy. Typically that involves eating small meals at regular intervals throughout the day. But now, I’m wondering if I’d do better to adopt a more narrow eating window (8/16?) in order to prolong the fasted state during which tirz apparently shines (while still having enough time to actually consume enough calories).
What do you think? Hit me with your brilliant insights (but be nice about it - I’m starting to make “troll slapdown” a second hobby)!
