State governorships that could flip in upcoming elections (2025-26)
I'll open this topic to include both parties. But I'll give some quick opinions on states with Democratic governors that could change after the next election.
Kansas - this is a deep red state and unless they can find a Dem as good as Gov. Kelly it's definitely flipping.
New Jersey - since Murphy narrowly scraped by in '21 and the state shifting to the right a Republican could win, considering they gave Christie 2 terms
New York - Hochul has been awful and unpopular and could lose reelection unless she campaigns well or a better Dem replaces her
Michigan - I don't know too much about this but it's hard seeing a "purple" state having 2 Dem governors in a row. Do they have someone else as loud and populist as Whitmer?
Arizona - The Dems only won in '22 because the R's ran a crazy-ass Kari Lake who couldn't deliver a "normal" message and insulted many people along the way. If a non-MAGA Republican runs, Hobbs has no chance of getting reelected.
Those are just a few as I expect the R's to pick up several more state governors while the D's continue to lose. You might think differently, but I don't expect any GOP governors to flip Dem, even Virginia. I know Youngkin sucks, but the D's don't have any convincing candidates.
