Well this explains it. VRR & Local Contrast. QM8

Not sure if all QM8 owners know, or those that want to buy should know. But, tested it tonight & with VRR on, local contrast (Full array dimming control) is not available under picture settings in game mode. Disable VRR and local contrast option is available in game mode. With VRR off, all is inky black in game as it is with movies etc.

Well this certainly explains why I was seeing lifted blacks with VRR enabled. VRR for me now just isn't an option when playing games like Alan Wake 2 or other darker games especially. Wonder if this will be fixed with a firmware update, or is this just how it is. Sad as I just wanted to leave VRR on for all games. I have no interest going in per game basis and altering picture settings.

Anyways, just wanted to mention this in case VRR and a functioning back light system during gaming was your top priority. With that said, without VRR things still look great, I personally just didn't want to see any kind of a raised black ceiling during my gameplay. Still an amazing TV.
