2 dumb naive college students visiting tbilisi, looking for advice

We're two Belgian students visiting at the beginning of february. The amount of information is kind of overwhelming. We're interested in history and would like to stay within the historic centre of the city. Where is it located and where should we stay? We don't have a huge budget but would like to spend between 20 and 40 euro per night. Thanks in advance!
