Dark screen during game play

I have a new compter with enough power and memory to run things on ultra. I am dealing with a dark screen during game play and have no idea how to fix it. None of the setting changes I make are making it better. I installed it from swtor.com, and steam both and have the same problem. Please help, my favorite game is almost unplayable.
