A fantasy novel/series for someone who has not explored the genre

Please suggest me a fantasy novel or series to read. I do read quite a lot, but the fantasy genre has largely been left unexplored. If you had to suggest something for me as my first pick, except Harry Potter, which I have read, what would it be?
