If I make it through today, this will be my longest dry streak since I've started drinking.
I began drinking when I was around 20, and since then I've basically had a drink every night. What was once one beer eventually got to one or two mixed drinks and more beers. Now I'm 24.
For the first time this New Year I realized I wanted to get sober, not had to get sober. The first week sucked, but now my sleep is fantastic, my skin brightened, and I've been able to wake up earlier and dedicate time to hobbies that I've neglected for the past several months, like birdwatching.
Moreover, my mental health is improved. Drinking was a short term solution to a long term problem. I find myself less anxious and depressed. If this is how I feel after just two weeks, I look forward to what the future holds. Cheers all.
