Nova Pro Wireless not pairing

Stop me if you have heard this one before...

After updating the firmware, I'm having a horrible time pairing the headphones to the base... they are literally brand new, got them yesterday...

I managed to pair them somehow after a lot of trial and error in the morning, but I don't know what I did...

Today I wanted to check the "range" mode, so I switched it, but oh man, that was a mistake, now I can't pair them again no matter what...

I've hold down the buttong for 6 seconds until it blinks rapidly, I've tried holding down both buttons at the same time, I'm going to go crazy trying to set them up again, and I'm wondering if I just should return them...
