My Experience with Gynecomastia Surgery in Sri Lanka

I wanted to share my recent experience with gynecomastia surgery, as it might help some of you going through similar issues.

I'm 18 and have been dealing with puffy areolas for the past seven years. This condition has been a significant source of insecurity for me. I've faced a lot of bullying and missed many opportunities, especially in public performances.

A few months ago, I finally confessed my situation to my parents. Thankfully, they were very understanding and supportive. They arranged for me to consult a general surgeon, who recommended that I get some ultrasound scans of both my breasts and scrotum (since gynecomastia can be associated with varicoceles).

After the scans, I was referred to Dr. Mishan Pravin Wijesinghe, who I would say is the best plastic surgeon in Sri Lanka. My consultation with Dr. Pravin was very reassuring. He examined my condition and decided that liposuction alone, without any large incision gland removal, would be sufficient for my case.

The surgery took place at Lanka Hospitals. I arrived at the hospital at 2 PM, and the surgery was scheduled for 4 PM under general anesthesia. There was some pain initially, but it was manageable. I was discharged around 10 PM on the same day.

The total cost was around LKR 350,000.

It's been a week since the surgery, and I had a follow-up session with Dr. Pravin on the fourth day. I was amazed by the results. My chest was almost flat, and it was exactly what I had hoped for.

Update: While the initial liposuction helped significantly, we later realized that gland reduction was necessary. The glands became more apparent after the fat was removed. My surgeon's decision to do liposuction first and then assess the need for gland reduction proved to be the right approach.
