IPC Certs Test Only if already experienced? Pics for attention.
A little background. I have been soldering well over 10 years and I’ve never really had a need to get certifications before. But recently I started applying for some jobs that involve soldering. Some of the positions are asking for a college degree (which I don’t have) because most deal with Electrical Engineering. A good amount of employers are willing to substitute experience (which I have) but since I don’t have any “formal” training I have been having a little bit of a hard time getting recruiters to believe in my skill set. So I’m looking to start getting some certs.
Anyway, is it possible to pay for and take the IPC Certification Exam without signing up for a course? I cannot seem to find anything on their site. When I click on “take online exam” it takes me to IPC Edge but it seems like you need to be a premium member of some kind. If you are or have been certified, how did you do it?
I would like to start with the IPC-A-610 but would also like to get the IPC-A-620 and also J-STD-001 since I’ve seen mentioned quite a bit in the job descriptions. Or any suggestions are also welcomed.
Thanks!
