Alternatives to Gore-Tex shells
Hey everyone,
I’m in the market for a durable, waterproof, and breathable shell for backcountry skiing and snowboarding. I’m currently considering the Arc’teryx Rush and Sabre SV, but I want to explore all viable options before making a purchase.
I know both of these jackets use GORE-TEX Pro, which is highly regarded, but I’m curious if there are good alternatives out there. Does anyone have experience with fabrics like Sympatex, eVent, Dermizax, or Futurelight? Specifically, I’m interested in how they stack up against GORE-TEX Pro in terms of:
- Waterproofness in extreme conditions
- Breathability during high-output activities
- Durability for backcountry use or snowboarding, especially in rough conditions like tree runs or carrying a pack
For those who use the Rush or Sabre SV, what are your thoughts on their performance? Are they worth the investment, or do you wish you had gone with something else?
I’d love to hear recommendations or comparisons from people who’ve really tested these fabrics and jackets in snowboarding or backcountry environments.
Thanks in advance!
