Stick burner under 1k in a northern state
Ok, I have now had three Chargriller Smoking Pros. The third one is dying, and I probably need to replace it this summer.
For information, the chargriller has served me well each time. I only use it for low and slow a few times a year, as well as grilling in the main body many times a year.
Now that this one is on its last legs, I want to upgrade. Mind you, I am in a northern state (Wisconsin). So, just driving my pickup truck (which I also don't possess) to the local Academy Sports to pick up an Old Country Bravos for under 1K is not an option. The only place I can get one semi locally is at Tractor Supply, and they are 2200 there (plus another 150ish delivery). I also have the option of a Yoder Cheyenne at that price (just over 2K delivered). Both options are NOT an option at this point. My options are:
Oklahoma Joe Highland for 330-350-ish Old Country Pecos for 950ish Chargriller (again) for around 250ish
These are "northern state" prices. Are there other options I am overlooking? No, I can't drive 12+ hours to go pick one up. Yes, that's how crappy our prices are here. I WANT to be able to buy an offset that I can burn some wood in (I normally do lump charcoal with a few chunks of wood). The chargriller is just too thin and flimsy to serve as a "stick burner" and also last more than 1-2 years.
I know... buy once, cry once. But I can't do 2K+ this summer. It does need to be replaced fairly soon. Is an Old Countet Pecos worth it as a "step up" at that price? Am I better off getting another chargriller and dropping the 2K if/ when I can on the Yoder? Is there Oklahoma Joe any better than a chargriller? Thoughts.
I know these pits have been discussed ad nauseum, but the inflated Wisconsin prices through a wrench there.
