Smoking question for my Jewish friends
My boss at work is Jewish and only eats kosher food. I've been wanting to have a work party at my house. Usually when I have a lot of people over I'll smoke something big that everyone can eat, but I don't want him to feel left out.
I thought about brisket, because I believe it is something that Jewish people traditionally have eaten, but I am not sure of a few things. First, is a brisket itself kosher or do I need to find a "kosher brisket"? I thought about also buying a kosher turkey or something and doing pulled pork and a big turkey breast. With that in mind, does it matter if it is cooked in the same smoker that has cooked non kosher foods before? Or if I cook something kosher at the same time that the pork is on? I know that there are Jewish delis and markets where I could get the meat, but don't want to mess with it if he won't be able to eat it because of how I will be cooking it.
We don't live in an area with a large Jewish population, so any time we have a potluck or something he only eats veggies and stuff. And any time we go out he usually keeps it vegetarian, but I know he eats kosher meat and would like him to be able to partake in the BBQ with everyone else. I appreciate any advice.
