The trident killers on silent's improved mob farm seem to be entirely broken

I've just built the farm and i turned it on and the trident killers tick once and then stop, so i downloaded the world and there was the same issue?! Any explanation

Edit: Note to everyone building this farm the trident Killer works turns on when the redstone is UNPOWERED
