Airbnb Host Municipality Tax

Hello,

I have a reservation in Syracuse coming up and I received a message from the host stating that there is a municipality tax that they are requesting being left at the end of the stay. Is this normal? Why wouldn’t they just work it into the stay itself??? I feel like I remember reading not to leave cash if someone asks for it. Can someone shed some light on this?
