shifting with 'bad intentions'?

so ive only heard this from two people, but its said that you cant shift at all if you have bad intentions, you can only have good ones. some of them listed as examples for bad ones were for power, money, revenge. is that true ? whats really considered a bad intention, and how can it stop you from shifting? this is my first time posting on here, hope im doing it right
