It's been a year. Screw this. I'm going freelance.
A few weeks ago, I passed the milestone of being laid off for a year. My story's not that different from many on here. So many applications, very few interviews, no offers. No inspiration, either. I love being decompressed from working. (Doc-approved, I've stopped taking antidepressants!)
Anyway, in a fresh round of networking, I was asked if I was open to freelance work. I'd been open to contract work already, but only retained contracts (full time). But I told this friend yes, I would consider a freelance project. A few days later, another friend had a freelance opportunity. I said yes to being interested to that too.
Within just a few weeks, I have had the most interesting work conversations I've had in this whole year, talking to people with small businesses. I have multiple sales leads, several estimates quoted, and even a completed project that will likely lead to more.
Brothers and sisters, I think I am going to stop applying for full-time jobs. I AM MAKING MY OWN JOB! Look at me, I am the boss now!
Wish me luck out there.
I work in digital marketing. Websites and social media and stuff.
