Companies needing you to do multiple interviews, is this a new thing that just happens everywhere now?

I'm looking for a technology related job in multiple industries. In all cases, there are multiple interviews: A screening, maybe multiple if there's a HireVue type interview, and then multiple interviews after. I was born in '95, was taught there'd only be one interview , especially as an entry level person. Multiple interviews were for like, CEOs. Is the multiple interviews for entry level a new thing?

I am a non traditional student, about to graduate from college, hence the question. Has it always been this way? I'm sure many bought in Gen Z people and coorporations will defend it by saying they're investing a lot of money in you.
