How important is being level?

So I know radar detectors are supposed to be level. However that's very difficult with one this size on a sport bike. I have a uniden r7 that I used in my car for a year and just put in my bike. How bad is it that it's so angled? I went on one ride with it and it did warn us of a few cops and from decent distance, but it also didn't go off for a few cops and I'm always curious if it just didn't work or if they actually weren't running radar.
