To border or not to border?
This is only my 2nd quilt ever! I'm making it for my daughter who currently loves mermaids and will be getting a "big girl" bed this Christmas.
My predicament is as follows: (1) I accidentally only ordered a fat quarter of the turquoise fabric rather than a half-yard and (2) didn't realize the seashell fabric (lower left corner) was stored somewhere else, so it didn't get cut with the rest. Thus, my quilt top is too small. The goal was for it to fit a full-size bed, and it is currently only 60x72, and I know that will shrink several inches after sewing.
My question is: should I use the seashell fabric as a border to get the quilt top bigger, or should I suck it up and cut more half-hexis (potentially ordering another fat quarter of the turquoise) and redo the quilt top? I have 1 yd total of the seashell fabric (standard width). Would that even be enough of a border to make the quilt big enough?
