Chicken or the egg? Looking for advise

My wife and I are a lesbain couple and we were planning to start trying early spring. Now after the election we aren't sure what to do and would love input. What first, baby or move?

We live in a swing state that went red (Wisconsin) on the boarders of a blue metro area. We both have good jobs in the public sector and we have been able to bank up enough sick leave that a lot of maternity leave would be paid. We also own our home. So everything was looking great. We had all our ducks in a row.

However we strongly feel that we now need to relocate to a blue state with better protections for our future kid we are looking at Illinois (north Chicago area) or Minnesota (twin cities).

It feels like a chicken or egg question. Do we try and have a child now while we have the benefits but in a riskier state? (and move when they are a year or two) Or wait, move and get reestablished and then try then (and risk losing access to fertility health care)?
