Confused on hosting services and recording/editing applications

As I continue to research podcast hosts and recording-editing applications I sort of just discovered most don't do both, or at least they don't do both well. Am I right that hosting and recording/editing are separate?

If so, are there recommended combos? And of course if I'm totally off base here feel free to roast me.
