Why was the American woman "stuck" in Pakistan? Why did she stay here so long?

I mean after she landed and realized that she had been defrauded, she could just stay in a hotel and book the next flight home.

I don't understand why she was in press conferences and hanging out with Cheepa and spending so much time here. Did she explain any reasoning?
