Tips for using OSE for Hot Springs Island?

Hey everyone, I just got OSE and also Hot Springs Island and been wanting to try it out with my group. I've been planning to do a one shot first with a different module to see how the rules worked then move on to HSI. What did you guys do to use OSE in HSI? Specifically should the players start at level 1? What happens when one of their characters die? Should I use a different system instead I've been eyeing Worlds Without Number too. Thanks!!!
