facial collapse after extractions and myofunctional therapy
Hi, I'm a 19yr old female who had her 2 upper premolars extracted. I had retractive braces for 3months but then I found out about orthotropics so I had them removed and left my gaps open. During the past 4 months, I have been super stressed out and depressed so idk if it were that or the extractions but I have noticed my eyebags look more prominent and my cheeks look sunken. Ive also lost tons of facial fat which is making me look more tired and older imo. Its just been 4 months after my extraction and I am confused as to whether it was the stress or the extractions that is causing my face to change.
Since I am already 19 idk how much myofunctional exercises would help and if mewing will help my facial structure, hence I wanted to know if there are any adults here who experienced positive facial changes from doing both? I will still do these nonetheless because it helps with breathing better but Ive been feeling quite hopeless about my face. I wanted to know if there are people here who believe that implants can help avoid facial collapse? (some doctors claim it keeps the jaw stimulated?)
I cant get implants immediately either tho since I need to fix my bite issues, posture and mandible's position (on orthotic rn) first. I was also told since teeth keep shifting and u keep growing, its more advisable to get implants after 21 for females and 25 for males. I will be getting zirconia implants (not comfortable putting metal in my body and i have a metal allergy) in 4years and was a bit concerned about the kind of bone loss and facial collapse that would occur till then. My orthodontist is telling me Im young and won't experience a lot of bone loss and will still be a candidate for implants despite 4yrs and won't require a bone graft either (which sounds unrealistic to me? ). Should I get a bone graft? I am also determined to get implants only if it's zirconia bt ik that zirconia implants are weaker hence are thicker than titanium implants. I don't want to end up being told I can never get zirconia because of insufficient space or bone. I can already see my gyms receding a lot and it is only been 5months. What do you propose I do to slow down the bone loss? Are sunken cheeks and prominent eyebags inevitable or will facial exercises be of any help?
