Why is having snapchat the most important thing as a Gen Z, or else people won't talk to you?
Hi everyone!
So I'm 23F, early Gen Z and I just recently, partly thanks to this sub, managed to completely get rid of snapchat.
It just made me feel shitty ALL the time.
These are the reasons I personally deleted it:
-People would only snapchat you when it was a generic snapchat they sent to everyone on their lists or for a "streak", I never felt special or like anyone wanted JUST me to see it.
-STREAKS oh man, anyone who tried to keep a streak with me or sent the stupid "S" snapchat got instantly blocked, it's so dumb.
-Getting left on delivered by someone you want to talk to hurts real bad, like even if they're posting stories or you can see them on the snapchat map actively ignoring you. Bugged the crap out of me!
-Having to document EVERYthing to "keep in touch" with my friends, I felt like I had to carry my phone with me to capture any moment of my life to send to everyone I knew, and I felt like I needed to be in constant contact with people on snap or I could miss something.
All in all, shittiest platform ever and I got rid of it.
All of those " friends" I had on snapchat, I gave them my phone # but I barely get any texts these days. I have actually met people at the gym, or on trips, who have asked specifically for my snapchat, and I tell them I don't have one and then they'll literally give me a confused look, as if asking for a phone # was too much or something?
My sister who is a chronic social media addict CONSTANTLY uploads stories to snapchats, snapchats every moment of her day to me, whined and cried when I deleted snapchat and acted like I was cutting her out of my life and she got SO MAD. I told her you can just text me number and that wasn't good enough, it was like she NEEDED me to see what her day was like so I could validate it.
Screw snapchat, stupidest app out there and I am so thankful to be free! :D
