Navy Recruiter Says My University Isn’t Accredited for Commissioning – Need Help Understanding

Hey everyone,

I recently reached out to a Navy recruiter about joining as an officer, but they told me my university doesn’t meet their accreditation standards for commissioning. I was a little confused because my university is accredited, just not necessarily with a specific programmatic accreditation for the pathway I originally inquired about.

I asked if this also applied to general line officer roles (which typically just require a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution), but the recruiter insisted that my university doesn’t align with what the Navy considers acceptable for commissioning.

Has anyone encountered this before? What specific accreditation standards does the Navy (and possibly other branches) require? I want to get a clear understanding of why my degree wouldn’t qualify.

I’ve attached a screenshot of my conversation with the recruiter for context. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

For reference: - B.Sc in General Psychology (Capella University) - M.Sc in Psychology; Child and Adolescent Development (Capella University) - Master of Business Administration (MBA) (Walden University)

Finishing two more at both, Master of Health Administration Master of Science I/O Psychology

BOTH universities are REGIONALLY ACCREDITED by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
