Does anyone have tips for explaining neurodivergence to people who just don’t get it?
I have a family member (white, neurotypical, financially stable, straight, cis man) that doesn’t understand anything science related. They’re elderly, so they also have ye olden stereotypes that guide their interpretation of new information. And they watch Fox News, a news station infamous for spreading misinformation on science (think the “vaccines cause autism” fake study). My family member also has absolutely no personal experience with neurodivergence or mental illness. Every time I search online for advice on how to properly explain neurodivergence to them or ask a therapist for advice, I get no helpful information. Does anyone here have any tips? I feel like it’s a crime that there’s so little advice for people in my situation, and I’d appreciate if anyone has any tips to put out there.
