Are these names too similar? Am I making a problem out of nothing?

I’m having a girl, and I have really struggled to like any girl names at all. A few months ago my husband and I chose Eleanor as our top girl name and really fell in love with it. The issue is someone in our friend circle has the name Ellie (not her nickname that’s her full name). I don’t want Eleanor to ever really go by a nickname, but I especially would not want the nickname to be Ellie (I don’t really like girl names ending in the “ee” sound). So two questions 1) is it weird to name our daughter Eleanor when we have a relatively close friend named Ellie? 2) is it possible to have some control over nicknames?
