Adaptations That Are Good But "Don't Respect The Source Material"

what are some adaptations where the filmmakers didn't care for the source material yet the film or tv show turned out good? I can think of starship troopers and forrest gump. I think a history of violence falls under that umbrella but I may be mistaken on that one. I know there's quite a few but terminally online people only act like it's all bad.
