What similar Movies are there to Stephen King's: The Mist?

So I mainly want a movie that destroys your emotions over and over and then finishes to let the main character at the end know that he acctually did all of his actions in vain and that everything he did was basically unnecesary.

I don't know if I defninetly liked the mystery or the misstrust etc. But i Liked how the movie managed to combine all of the features.

So, can you movie experts recommend me anything?
