I'm very surprised that Patriot Games (1992) got a R-rating, not PG-13.

Inspired by an post about PG-13 and R movies, I decided to do this:

The previous Jack Ryan film The Hunt for Red October (1990) was rated PG-13 so I assumed that Patriot Games had that same rating too. Wrong, it's rated R. And to my surprise, turns out that after watching the movie, it really didn't deserve a R rating at all and I think that they could have gotten away with a hard PG-13 rating. Unfortunately, the MPAA didn't care at the time and decided to give it a R rating while other PG-13 movies such as Batman Returns (1992) were more intense than Patriot Games was with a R-rating. Just crazy to see MPAA give Patriot Games a R-rating.
