What is one TV trope / cliché you will never understand? (Counts for both movies and series)

I'll start. Something I've noticed a lot in both movies and TV series is that when something traumatic or a serious incident with injuries happen, they often do a two week time jump right after, revealing that everything is fine and no one has any lasting injuries.

Some examples from TV shows

13 Reasons Why: Clay and Zach get into a car accident. Next shot is them being back at school with Zach on crutches.

Pretty Little Liars: Emily has to fight off a murderer and kills him in self defense. A friend of hers gets shot in the process. Next episode is a two week time jump with everyone being fine.

This completely undermines the drama and excitement. It always makes me wonder why they include it in the first place if you're not going to focus on these characters getting better or dealing with what happened. It ruins the moment and creates no stakes if a time jump can brush it all away.

The only time I can excuse it if it's meant as a traumatic backstory to flesh out a character rather than something happening in the present time. For example, the opening of Godzilla (2014).
