How to make James Bond cutting-edge again? Safdie Brothers

Now that Nolan seems to be out on Bond, I think Eon needs to atleast take a call with the Safdie brothers. If they can also get someone from the Leitch-Stahelski-Hargrave pipeline of stunt-coordinators, then that's a recipe for one of the most white-knuckle action thrillers we've seen in years

While the Craig era started with a lot of promise and had a great peak with Skyfall, it fell into kind of a confused limbo, where it didn't know whether it wanted to lean into the seriousness, or wade into campier territory. They tried to do both simultaneously, it didn't work, and made the films feel almost stale by the end.

While a lot of fans are talking about how harkening back to a more light-hearted era of Bond, is the way to go. I don't think the darker tone is the issue, it's the fact that every other action franchise has caught up to it in terms of innovation and scale (and many have surpassed it). Bond is no longer the standard-bearer of the genre, in anything but name-recognition. So what it needs is filmmakers that can bring it back to the cutting edge.

The Safdies are also critical darlings, so they bring the requisite prestige that the studio wants associated with its directors. Also, and this might not be a sticking point for some, but these dudes are fairly funny too, so I'm sure they'd be able to add in a few comedic elements into the movie as well.
